Our Purpose: To establish a positive working relationship between the Port Angeles Downtown Association and the

youth of our community for our mutual benefit.

Kids!  Want to do something fun this summer? Like to dress in costume? Want to do something that will give you references for scholarships and jobs? Like to do something for your community while learning about business and the history of Port Angeles? Need to get started on your senior culminating project? Just want to make some new friends? Want to help plan a party?  All this and more is possible if you join the new Port Angeles Downtown Associationʼs youth volunteer group.

This group is for you. You get to help choose itʼs official name. You get to choose what activities you want to be part of. You get to plan with the other group members your very own project.  You get an insiderʼs tour of the underground. You could be in a parade. You can have a say. You can make a difference. You get volunteer training geared just for you. You get adult mentors that want to help you reach your goals. You will be part of a committee of the Port Angeles Downtown Association. You are going to have new friends and lots of FUN!

Port Angeles Youth Volunteers (PAYV) recognized at Washington State Main Street Conference in Vancouver with the Organizational Excellence award for 2012.

For years, the Port Angeles Downtown Association (PADA) heard complaints that “there’s nothing for kids to do downtown.” Negative press coverage in 2011 of teens ‘hanging out’ downtown, intimidating shoppers, trespassing and vandalizing property told kids they weren’t wanted downtown. A positive way to engage kids in downtown was needed, and the PADA responded by creating Washington’s first youth Main Street program.

“PADA is the first of our Main Street groups to develop a youth volunteer program, and it has been a tremendous success,” said Sarah Hansen, Washington State Main Street Coordinator. “I am so proud of all that these individuals have accomplished. Not only are they investing in their community, but the community, in turn, is investing in its future entrepreneurs and leaders.”

Congratulations to PAYV, the Organization Committee and Chairwoman, Grace Kauffman, who has spent countless hours creating a group that we can all be proud of.  The first in Main Street!
