This building was built in 1951 and housed the City Jail.  It was constructed following World War II.  The building followed the historical pattern of construction on the tidelands.  it was a corner property and both the eat and north elevations abutted "planked on piles" streets.  It was one of the few truly moderne designs built downtown.  This was due partially to its civic function and the fact that it was built new from the ground up.

It is an important resource, documenting this transitional history of downtown Port Angeles, Port Angeles's civic life, and how modern vernacular urban architecture developed in the Northwest.

The building was pressure washed on May 15 and painting started on Tuesday, May 19.  Our Go-to-Guys, Larry and Lloyd got going with the prep work on Tuesday and got serious about painting on Wednesday with additional volunteers.  Along came the cadets from ROTC on Saturday and things really started taking shape.

The building was completed on May 28, with the able assistance of 35+ volunteers donating 371.75 hours!
