OCAW Aldwell Building
This building was originally constructed in 1922 as an annex to the Aldwell Building by Thomas T. Aldwell. Its original retail/commercial tenants included Masons Grocerteria, Bert Murta (Notions), Jasper L. Coffee (Jeweler), and John E. Tormey (meat). Over the years, a shoe store, Burnett Brothers Jewelry and the Packing House Market occupied space in the building. The building is currently occupied by The Toggery.
This is a two-story,four bay, brick commercial row structure. It has a ground floor storefont and four paired, double-hung, one-over-one wood windows on the upper floor. There is a single entrance at the west end of the main facade leading directly to the stair up. The original front canopy has been modified. The upper story windows have decorated lugsills with a continuous bead trim that drops slightly between the masonry openings.
This is the second Aldwell Building, an annex to the adjacent Aldwell Building destroyed by fire.
The painting on this project was completed by the building owner with the assistance of "good" friends and The Toggery business owners on a warm Sunday afternoon in mid-May. The building owner took on the task of reworking the upper story windows over the rest of May and into June. Take a look at the finished product.
