THE PORT ANGELES DOWNTOWN ASSOCIATION
WELCOMES YOU TO
DOWNTOWN PORT ANGELES
Port Angeles has a rich heritage, politically, militarily and economically. President Abraham Lincoln ordered a reservation of land here in 1862 for a lighthouse and military use. Later Port Angeles became a townsite reserve, and by Congressional act in March, 1863, Port Angeles was designated as America's Second National City, the alternative capital of the United States.
Port Angeles found prosperity as a logging town, and as a natural deepwater port. At one time, it was the home of the Pacific Fleet. As the economic structure of the area changed, Port Angeles responded by expanding its tourism base as an international gateway for travelers to Vancouver island, British Columbia, and to the beautiful Olympic National Park.
The sidewalks of downtown Port Angeles offer amazing views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and Olympic National Park from anywhere in town. We are surrounded by miles of beautiful coastline, beaches and pristine forests. As you visit downtown enjoy the spectacular scenery, friendly people, delightful shops and wonderful restaurants. Port Angeles is an ideal place to live and work, and the perfect vacation destination.
We look forward to your visit to Downtown Port Angeles and hope you enjoy your time with us.
